Rooms and Resources Manager
Domino 7 has centralized the processing of room and resource reservations into a new Rooms and Resources Manager (RnRMgr) task. The Rooms and Resources Manager is designed to prevent overbooking of rooms or resources and is responsible for both the processing of all workflow that is related to reserving a room or resource as well as accurately updating the Busytime database. Rooms and Resources Manager handles functionality previously handled in multiple places such as router, the Rooms and Resources Template and the Schedule Manager. Regardless of where the reservation request is created, that is, either in the Resource Reservations database, a user's calendar, or using the Internet, the reservation request will not have any conflicts with other reservations. The Rooms and Resources Manager task accepts the same server console commands that the Schedule Manager does because it performs the same functionality.

Note The Schedule Manager task no longer maintains busytime for rooms or resources.

See the Lotus Notes 7 release notes for information about using the Rooms and Resources Manager.

There can be a maximum of two replicas of any Rooms and Resources databases on cluster mates on which the Rooms and Resources Manager is run. You can have more than two replicas in a cluster if only two of those replicas are on systems that run Rooms and Resources Manager. For example, if you have four servers in a cluster but Rooms and Resources Manager only runs on two of them, all Domino 7 servers are permitted to have replicas of the same Rooms and Resources database. Replicas of the Rooms and Resources database can be created on pre-Domino 7 servers only if the following criteria is met:

The Rooms and Resources Manager task provides automatic failover of request processing when the current processing server fails. The Rooms and Resources Manager typically processes requests on the database's home server, that is, the server on which the database resides. If the Domino server on which the Rooms and Resources Manager is running fails, the Rooms and Resources Manager on the Domino 7 cluster mate detects the server failure and begins processing reservation requests where the failed server left off. The Room and Resources Manager on the failover server continues processing reservations until that server fails. The original server then fails over for the failed server and begins processing requests again. This failover ability provides sustained availability for the Rooms and Resources Manager.
