Importing files into views
You can import structured text files, tabular text files, spreadsheet files, and vCard (electronic business card files) into Notes views, as long as the source file is stored in a location you can access, such as your local hard drive or file server. You can import vCard files only into views in your Personal Address Book.

Importing is useful when you want to work with data in Notes rather than in the original application and you won't need constant updates. If you want to update the data at a later time, you have to import again.
