GETTING CONNECTED

Setting up a modem
You can use either a dialup, cable, or DSL modem with Notes.
There is no configuration necessary in Notes for a cable or DSL modem. Both cable and DSL access work from the Office or Internet (LAN) locations in Notes, and look to Notes as if your computer is on a LAN.

To set up a dialup modem automatically

Follow the instructions in Using a phone line to access Notes mail and other databases.

To set up a dialup modem manually

1. From the menu, choose File - Preferences - User Preferences.

2. Click Ports.

3. Under "Communications Ports," select the port your modem is connected to (for example, COM 2). If you're unsure what port that is, check your operating system.

4. Click the button "Portname Options," where Portname is the name of the port you selected in step 3 (for example, COM 2 Options).

5. Select a modem type. If you don't know what type of modem you have, consult your operating system configuration settings and help.

6. (Optional) Specify any additional modem settings.

7. Click OK twice.
