WORKING WITH DOCUMENTS

Capturing metadata about a document
Metadata is information that describes the characteristics of stored data. It can be used to organize and search documents.

The Meta tab in Document Properties lets you view and capture metadata about a document, and if you choose, to post metadata in the Domain catalog.

Document Properties Meta

Metadata allows authors or librarians, for example, to find bibliographic data that represents the document. When you open a document, metadata is already captured in some fields. However, you can also capture metadata about a document while you are in a view by clicking the Meta tab and filling out fields.

You can post metadata for a document in the Domain catalog, which creates a link to the document. Domain search then indexes the document's metadata.

Note If Domain search is not set up, you can still capture metadata, but you cannot categorize metadata and post it to the catalog.

These are the fields in the Meta tab:
FieldWhat the field means
TitleThe title of the document.
CreatorWho created the document.
KeywordsKeywords you can add to the metadata that helps categorize the document.
DescriptionInformation you can add to the metadata that helps describe the document.
DateThe date the document was initially created.
IdentifierUnique ID string that identifies the document.
Type The type of document, for example, a WAV file.

Note It is recommended to enter syntax for MIME types, for example, x-Lotus-1-2-3, which is application specific (a MIME type is defined as x-* , where (*) is an application)
